Metamorphic Tales

My dear one, the jewel of my eye, Sleep my dear precious one. You are the peacock, the dancing peacock, You are the koel, the singing koel, You are the moon, light of the moon, You are the eyelid, dreams that wait on the eyelids. Rararo…Rararo… Rararo…Rararo… You are the flower, nectar of the flower You are the fruit, sweetness of the fruit. Rararo…Rararo…
Life of Pi is a story about struggling to survive through seemingly insurmountable odds. The shipwrecked inhabitants of the little lifeboat don’t simply acquiesce to their fate: they actively fight against it. Pi abandons his lifelong vegetarianism and eats fish to sustain himself. Orange Juice, the peaceful orangutan, fights ferociously against the hyena. Even the severely wounded zebra battles to stay alive; his slow, painful struggle vividly illustrates the sheer strength of his life force. As Martel makes clear in his novel, living creatures will often do extraordinary, unexpected, and sometimes heroic things to survive. However, they will also do shameful and barbaric things if pressed.

I can hardly wait for Christmas break because then I can go to a matinee showing.

Does one need the 3D glasses to watch this film?

They have 2D and 3D versions. Although 3D was nice... it was more expensive. and yes, for the 3 D version, they supply glasses.

Thersites,
Is it worth the extra bucks to see the 3D version?

I think that I'll go to see The Life of Pi on Thursday if the movie theater has an early show; I have to take Mr. AOW to the dentist @ 3:15. If there is not an early show that day, going to see the movie will have to wait until the weekend or December 17.

I was interested in seeing the film as soon as I heard about its release. But now that YOU have so highly recommended it, I'm EAGER to see it!

If you can afford the luxury, then it's probably worthwhile seeing the 3D version, as like Avatar, it was filmed specifically with 3D in mind. But 3D isn't the reason that I enjoyed the film so much, so it's really "optional".

The tiger is amazing. It was filmed in combination of real tiger and CGI... and I challenge you to discern which is which. I certainly couldn't.

Regardless, enjoy yourself. It's a wonderful story guaranteed to give you a reason to "hope" for the future of humanity.

If, after seeing it, you want to have a discussion, please let me know. I'm dying to have a conversation concerning the movies extremely deep and rich symbolic textures.

I'll probably opt for the 3D version if the price isn't too steep. I'll check the prices when I go Christmas shopping at the mall on Wednesday, but I won't be seeing the film then because of some time constraints.

If the film is as good as I think it is, then we must have a discussion about it. Do you want to discuss the film on the web or via email? Let me know.

Is there a difference in quality between 3D and ETX 3D?

Thersites said...

I don't know...I will note one thing that struck me when watching... there "appeared" to be a "picture frame" outside of the original frame into which some of the 3-D effects were extended... perhaps that was the EXT.

...and the web is fine for a discussion, as I won't likely explore anything overtly "personal".

Thersites said...

Okay... the screen is 20% bigger than normal and approximates the IMAX format... whatever that means.

Damn. Well, that's as clear as mud.

I have zero experience with 3D.

I've bought a ticket in advance to see the film on Wednesday evening. Early on Thursday morning, I will have a post that mentions my going to see the movie: "An Annual Odious Task" (referring to Christmas shopping -- not the film). We can begin a discussion at that thread if you like.

I have several things to do today but will check in on that thread from time to time.

I did post a comment to that thread a few minutes ago.

I admit that I'm still digesting the messages in the movie.

I think that I'll read the book again -- or listen to the audio version.
